Or, why you should worry when men are quiet for too long.

I pity the fool!

Adventures in Kilting

So it happened like this...

My husband and I decided to go to the Ren Faire last week. I figured we'd go, watch some jousting, he'd enjoy some good beer, and I'd look at handmade jewelry and maybe buy some pottery. What actually happened was that Matt LOVED it and really got into it.

He asked me to make him a costume.

This was actually pretty cool and I'm happy to oblige, especially as I've been wanting to make myself a costume for years. Unfortunately, I'm not that great at sewing. I can basically sew really straight lines and that's it.

So, that's how I ended up spending the next two weekends making a kilt.

Here's a picture of the nearly finished product (I frayed the edges by hand!):

The pleats were harder than I expected:

I think it came out well. For my first major clothing project since middle school, I'd have to say I'm proud of myself!

I think I'm going to try something simpler next time. Maybe an apron.... From the "Sew Easy" collection!

Next week we're going to the Faire again. I bought a lovely dress at the Faire last time, so Matt & I will both be in costume. I'll post more pictures next week!
